Cape Town Psych-Rockers Sueños have just released their dreamy new single “Sonic Seas” on all major streaming platforms. I was immediately lured in by the melodic opening acoustic guitar riff, before the perfectly timed introduction of the drums. Then in came the swooning, melancholic vocals, which perfectly compliment the instrumentation, and I was already hooked.

There is a great structure to the way the song gradually builds up from a gentle stripped down introduction, into a powerfully atmospheric Psychedelic Rock soundscape. Sueños tell their stories in a viscerally emotive way, and it is evident in the way they bring you along for the sonic adventure with them.

“Sonic Seas”, encapsulates a journey through life’s tribulations and possibilities, echoing the interplay between resonance and dissonance. Recorded live in studio in Cape Town, South Africa, the single embodies the band’s dynamic style, ranging from nuanced piano to cathartic walls of sound. There is a great level of production value with the track being expertly mixed by Warren Fisher and mastered by Jacob van der Westhuizen.

Since forming in 2021 Sueños, have quickly established themselves in the DIY Psych Rock scene, crafting reverberating soundscapes that blur boundaries between dualities like light and dark, loud and quiet, material and immaterial. Navigating through waves of psych grooves and Jazz-inspired patterns, Sueños has garnered acclaim with releases like “Anima,” featured on prominent playlists like Spotify’s SA Rock. 

With performances at renowned festivals such as That 70’s Fest and Jua Festival of Sunshine, the band invites listeners to embark on a self-reflective and cathartic journey, culminating in their highly anticipated upcoming debut EP. Sueños’ music serves as a vessel for exploration, inviting audiences to dive into the depths of their emotive storytelling and experience the transformative power of sound.
