I don’t conceptualize the meanings

of my photographs before taking them,

I merely take pictures of things that I like.

We take a moment to peer back through the lens at Ben Olive. What makes him tick and what purpose his photographs serve to the viewer.

“Since getting into photography I find that I am constantly looking at everything as if through the viewfinder of my camera. It’s a rare day that I don’t see or think of at least one thing I would like to photograph. With portraiture being what I’m most interested in, I would have to say that one of my biggest sources of inspiration is of course people; the human aesthetic. What is my purpose as an artist? As a photographer? Well to be honest, not much. I don’t conceptualize the meanings of my photographs before taking them, I merely take pictures of things that I like.”

“The purpose of my photography is therefore to communicate, not an idea, or message, nor even a feeling, but to communicate a desperate desire to create; for everyone to be able to see what I see, and for that be taken notice of. I enjoy sitting around, watching movies and reading books, but I’m not a potato; that isn’t all that I do and not all that I’m capable of, I too have a vision, and I want people to know that.”
