Nani?! are shaking up the scene with their irresistible brand of “New Age Grunge”.

Music like most things is cyclical and much of the sounds that dominated the 90’s such as Punk, Hard Rock and Shoegaze have already had their revivals. But what of Grunge which probably captured the cultural zeitgeist of the era’s youth (angst, not fitting in, rebelling against authority) most accurately? The likes of Nirvana, Soundgarden and The Smashing Pumpkins made music that resonated more with misunderstood teenagers than music critics, although they would retrospectively receive their due credit once the media realised how unstoppable the phenomenon of Grunge was.

Cape Town band Nani?! are bringing back the ethos of Grunge with their raw and personal sound that brings back 90’s nostalgia and intertwines Punk, Shoegaze, Hard Rock and even elements of Pop. Despite being young in their journey as a band, with no official releases as of yet, they have established a strong following through their electrifying live performances at venues such as The Armchair Theatre, District, and Evol.

Nani?! are currently hard at work on their Debut EP which promises to be something special and in keeping with their DIY ethos will be completely home-recorded and self-produced. The chaos and disorder that once defined Rock have largely been lost in an era dominated by sleek, overly-produced music with the main intention of cultivating profits for record labels. But fret not as Nani?! is bringing back the wild, raucous spirit of Rock ‘n Roll an energy that is matched by their fans with some insane mosh pitting going down at their shows.

On the 17th of August Nani?! will be opening our powerful Punk lineup for No Strings Attached, our Skate Jam, Punk and Hip-Hop event at the Shred. Be sure to get your tickets soon so that you don’t miss out on an epic performance from these rockstars.
