We’ve Put Together A Selection Of Banging Tunes To Get You Through The January Blues.

Like Al Pacino in Scarface; The World Is Yours. Those New Year resolutions aren’t sticking, but that’s fine, you have the rest of the year to reinvent yourself.  Janu-worry has been a long one already, and it feels as though the festive season has drifted far into the distant past. But don’t fret too much because we have put together a selection of some absolutely massive tunes from the past little while. As per usual our focus is largely towards local artists with tracks from Thabo and The Crows, Internet Girl, KindlyNxsh and Teagan. From Hip-Hop to RnB to Indie Pop to Punk we’ve got something in there for all listening tastes.

Internet Girl

Boss

Internet Girl’s latest track Boss is a punchy anthem that oozes confidence and futuristic allure. Blending Hyperpop’s glitchy textures with slick, Hip-Hop-inspired production, the track feels like a neon-lit declaration of independence. With Ntsika‘s commanding vocals layered over distorted beats and shimmering synths, Boss channels Indie Sleaze with a modern spin.

Twenty One Children

Talk Shows

Talk Shows is third track of Soweto Punk band Twenty One Children‘s November 2024 EP Only The GundwanLoud, brash, and visceral, this track embodies the ethos of Punk while having a distinctively South African soundscape. Give Tyla Burnett’s “Punk In The Age Of Doom And Redemption” piece a read to learn more about one of the dopest local Punk acts around.

Jet Vesper

The Future

After a hit-filled 2024, Australian Neo-Soul crooner Jet Vesper has kicked off the new year with sultry downtempo ballad The Future (belongs to us). The production is laidback yet funky, characterized by delicate piano, groovy bass guitar lines, and floating synths. Jet’s silky vocals float delicately over the instrumentation transporting the listener back to 70’s LA as we overlook the sky and ocean melting into a haze from atop the hills.

Thabo and The Crows

Get My Funk On

As one of my favourite local band’s first track of the year, Get My Funk On immediately caught my attention. In a slight departure Thabo and The Crows usual sound, this track is an irresistibly groovy Funk and Soul infused tune. The production is exquisite, featuring swooning bass guitar riffs, submline Trumpet from Keegan Steenkamp and Thabo‘s gravelly yet soulful vocals.

Sorvina x jakohitsdifferent

Heaven Come To Earth

Heaven Come to Earth is a powerful blend of Gospel-inspired influences and modern-day Hip-Hop. With rhythms that echo Sorvina’s upbringing in an African American church, the track becomes a moving anthem of gratitude and reflection. Through heartfelt lyrics, Sorvina reclaims appreciation for every experience, every lesson, and every connection that’s shaped her journey. Perfect for those seeking a soulful, introspective vibe with a beat that stays with you.
