The Good News Dudes Are Back With “Rock ‘n Rolla” A Classic Punk Ode To Living Life On Your Own Terms.

Our favourite Garden Route Surf-Rockers, The Good News Dudes, are back with some old-school Punk goodness in the form of Wednesday’s release of Rock ‘n RollaThe track is short and punchy, with its 2-minute 42-second runtime jam-packed with tasty riffs and some incredible drum work. The track opens with a rolling drum pattern and an intermittent lead guitar riff that hints at the carnage to come. The drums then slow into a rhythmic pattern as some absolute killer riffs come in before being joined by a subliminal bass riff, creating an anthemic sound.

Over the nostalgic Punk instrumentation JP challenges authority and dated social norms, singing about the virtues of the Rock ‘n Roll lifestyle in his trademark angsty baritone vocals. The track splits the narrative into two sections with a male and female protagonist in the story with both serving as two sides to the coin that is being a Rock ‘n Rolla. Lyrics like “She’s gonna dance and run wild”, and “Don’t you ever hit that switch, you better dance till you lose it” drive home the ode to living life to the fullest, unconstrained by the expectations of society.

Rock ‘n Rolla is a modern day Punk anthem that pays homage to the original ethos of the movement and is a welcome change from a lot of the disingenuous manufactured commercial Pop-Punk that pollutes the airwaves these days.

“We all like a bit of the good life – some the money, some the drugs, other the sex game, the glamour, or the fame. But a RocknRolla, oh, he’s different. Why? Because a real RocknRolla wants the fucking lot.” – Archy (Rock ‘n RollaGuy Ritchie, 2008)
