“Sundays are all about House Music expressed in all its different forms.” – We House Sundays

Born out of a vision to create a space for dancers, DJ’s, and House music lovers to come together, We House Sundays is an epic authentic electronic music event that has been held here in the Mother City since 2014. Between the perfect balance its talented hosts have found among each other as a collective, the difficulties of the past two years of the events industry, and the motivation from the consistent love and support of the “Sunday People”, We House Sundays continues as one of Cape Town’s most acclaimed and memorable music experiences.

WHS puts a strong emphasis on fostering the social aspects of the music scene, with its events featuring a daytime concept and an open plan layout that has proven the perfect space to encourage people getting to know each other, creating an ideal environment to discover new music and friends, as well as a place to network between DJ’s & producers.

We sat down with the creative team behind We House Sundays to get the inside scoop on all things WHS:

“House Music itself touches people from all walks of life. The ethos behind WHS was always to make people feel welcome and at home. The music does the rest.”

Why Sundays?

“At the time it was the most suitable day of the week for a day/night time concept, also considering fellow DJ’s & creatives who work on weekends, Sunday was the perfect day to kick back with friends before the new week ahead.”

What would you attribute to the popularity and success of WHS? What makes WHS events unique and different?

“WHS grew organically by slowly attracting the right people. We started very small & intimate, and as time went on friends invited friends and family-like bonds were made.”

The celebration of cultural diversity seems to be at the core of what you do. How would you describe the importance of creating a space for the House scene to flourish?

“House Music itself touches people from all walks of life. The ethos behind WHS was always to make people feel welcome and at home. The music does the rest.”

Besides spotlighting the incredible talent here in South Africa, you have also collaborated with some pretty big international artists such as Atjazz, and Jimpster. What would you say, if any, are the benefits of featuring international headliners in the South African music scene?

“The international artists featured have mostly been key figures in the Worldwide Deep House scene, some are pioneers of the sound as DJ/Producers, and it’s been an amazing journey working with the very artists who paved the way for the music we all love. House heads get to meet their favorite artists in person & experience them playing live.”

With Smalltown Beat right around the corner, we’re super excited to see what you will be bringing to the party. Can you give us a teaser of what to expect?

“Sundays are all about House Music expressed in all its different forms. Expect a sonic journey curated especially for the beautiful natural surroundings at STB.”
