Jack Parow Is Back With The Release Of Student Animated Music Video For Skattie.
South Africa’s ‘gevaarlikste’ rapper, and one of the most entertaining characters in the music industry, Jack Parow is back in trademark style. Jack Parow’s track “Skattie”, off his 2023 album Die Evangelie van Goeie Tye, is a modern-day bar ditty that deals with the relatable theme of wanting to go out and have a drink with your friends to let off some steam but before you know it you’re wasted and the night quickly goes south. The accompanying American Dad style animated music video, was created by Eryn Voogt, a student from Stellenbosch Academy of Design & Photography, for a class project. The “Skattie” music video came to fruition when Wessie van der Westhuizen, head of Multimedia Design Studies at Stellenbosch Academy of Design & Photograph reached out to Parow to ask him if his students can create music videos for him as part of a class project.
Jack Parow graded and provided feedback for 22 students’ music videos, but only Eryn Voogt got 100 / 100.
Here is a short extract from Parow’s feedback to Eryn:
“All I can say is wow, dis BEF*K! I really can’t fault it. From the American Dad style of animation to the characters to the fun and vibrant colours, just amazing! The story is engaging and entertaining and keeps you watching and waiting for what’s next, not a dull moment! This is a music video and would love to use it! Really, no jokes, WELL DONE!!
Jack is on fine form from the get-go dropping hilarious bars in his unmistakeable trademark flow. His irresistible combo of captivating storytelling and humour is hard to ignore and is what has kept him relevant in the South African Hip-Hop scene for such a long time. The infectiously catchy chorus of “Skattie Doesn’t Know”, a brilliant interpolation of Lustra’s 2004 Punk-Pop classic “Scotty Doesn’t Know“, had me hooked immediately. The production has a bouncy, drum-driven sound with a deep bassline that provides the perfect platform for Jack’s flow. It is awesome to see a legend of the SA music scene like Jack Parow continue to shine with his authentic sound and provide a platform for a young creative like Erin Voogt to showcase her talent.
