FEELING
BORED?
We got you covered.
Written by: Jordan Fernandez
Ah the beauty of living in the Western Cape…no matter the weather, there’s always something to get up to! It is the start of Autumn but Mother Nature has yet to figure that out. March is odd, you are still coming down from December and settling in, but you cannot yet say, can you believe it’s April already? Here are a few ways to keep yourself busy in this weird, wonderful and windy month.
7-9 March, Buffalo Drift – Tulbagh
Bazique
Music? Yes. Great company? Yes. Weirdos dancing around barefoot? Yes. Absurd? Yes, it would be absurd for you not to go. Not only is the music amazing and of a broad variety, but there is so much to absorb from the art installations, workshops and the wilderness itself.
16-17 March, Long Beach – Kommetjie
Cape Town Surf Pro
Based in Kommetjie, why not turn a regular beach day staring at hotties into a day of watching oaks on surfboards. You can witness the good vaabs, the most killer waves dude and the most radical wipeouts. Cody could be you bro! Genuine chat, this worldwide event is a spectacle right on our doorstep, so take advantage of it.
4th & 5th March, Grand West Casino
Cigarettes After Sex
This year might be feeling a little apocalyptic and all you need is some affection. Instead of going to watch the sunsetz, go watch this pop band, you might just end up falling in love with them.
12th & 26th March, Drostdy Street
Stellenbosch Street Soirée
Feel like getting tipsy on wine while wearing linens and chatting up tourists? This event is for you. If you are a wine connoisseur, this is bang for your buck as you get to taste many different wines while not spending your entire wage. If you simply love to be social and enjoy acting like you love wine, then you will fit right in.
9th March, Oranjezicht City Farm
Educational Pop-up lunch @Oranjezicht Farm
Walking through Oranjezicht city farm is a pleasure for all the senses. You might need to take out a small loan, but after you do, you can have a four-course meal featuring fresh seasonal produce, local yellowtail and a focus on the sensual nature and experience that is good food.
15th March, Green Point Fanwalk
Cape Town Carnival
To be honest, I didn’t know this was a thing. Upon further research…it seems it could actually be a great time. A showcase of floats and an entire parade, this is a Rio de Janeiro-esque event where the actual Brazilian Queen of the Drums, Erika Januza, is performing. With it being free, why not go enjoy the celebration of the Mother City.
17th March, Anywhere Your Heart Desires
St Patrick’s Day
Look no further than your local pubs, bars and restaurants. If you want an excuse to wear that new green top you purchased or to have a Guinness on a Monday…St Patties is the perfect time to do just that! Remember to cheers your favourite ginger friend on their special day.
