Winter has been rainy and cold but The Good News Dudes are here to heat you up like a steaming hot cup of coffee mixed with a bit of bourbon.
When I first heard The Good News Dudes during February’s edition of First Thursday Down South I was immediately hooked by their carefree, in-your-face Rock ‘n Roll Attitude. Who are the Good News Dudes? Well if you don’t know by now they are one of the raddest new bands in SA on a mission to spread the gospel of good vibes.
Based in the idyllic Garden Route town of Wilderness, these four friends were brought together by their shared love of music and surfing. Earlier this year they made a big splash with the release of their debut single CSI and the hilariously brilliant accompanying music video. During their “Feb You No Worry” tour of Cape Town they lit up the stage at First Thursdays Down South, The Shed, and Surfa Rosa.
The dudes have quickly established a loyal following with their raw and real brand of Surf Rock. Last month they dropped their second single “Surfing All Day” an endlessly fun ode to the laidback surfer lifestyle.
The band’s chemistry is on clear display with JP and Pat’s guitar riffs interplaying off each other to create a smoothly layered sound, with Matt’s steady drumming creating a solid foundation. JP’s deep, gravelly vocals work a treat, complimenting the track perfectly. His humorous style of storytelling captures the surfer lifestyle perfectly and makes you want to head to the beach for a day filled with sun, big waves and ice-cold beers.
The Good News Dudes will be performing at our Skate-Punk-Hip-Hop event “No Strings Attached” at the Shred on the 17th of August. So be sure to catch The Good News Dudes epic set along with some other awesome Punk and Hip Hop acts plus some sick skating.
