There are many events in our beautiful country for many different types and walks of life. The celebration of life is something that as South Africans we take seriously. When we created the CCC, a core ideology was bringing power back into the hands of creatives. Influenced by many different ideas and groups both home and abroad, our focus was created to energise the industry around us, to bring artists and creativity to the fore. That by doing so and by focusing on the most important part of our social experience: community, you create something bigger than just any individual. You create something special. Now, if you have ever been to Smalltown Beat then you know what I’m saying to be true.

With an air of mystery around the event and its creators, the few years before COVID saw Smalltown Beat establish a name for itself as one of the most thoroughly enjoyable festival experiences in South Africa. Firm believers that the most important part of any event are the people there, Smalltown Beat create a space that is inclusive and safe, experimental and away from the madding crowd but most importantly, an exhibition of some of the best names and groups inside not just the electro-music industry but the greater soundscape of Cape Town and South Africa.

Made up of entirely the most exciting groups and organisations in SA, the base of the STB team is not just any one or two people, but rather the collective mindset that forms the heart of Smalltown Beat. “Electronic music is about community and we focus on reflecting the diverse sights and sounds that exist within ours.”  Although it’s completely subjective, the Smalltown team try to present what is felt to be the best music our scene has to offer. This is made easy though by the amazing group of collectives that contribute and work towards this same shared goal. From collectives such as: Champagne, DeeTo Sessions, Database, Hamshack Radio, Live Lounge, Mass, Mouth2Mouth, Not Sorry Club, NTSC, Private Life, Suid Tronica, The Other, The Red Telephone, Vault, We House Sundays and Xylem, the essence of Stronger Together is front and centre here and we believe that it’s what makes StB one of the best experiences around.

Last year we reached out to the Smalltown team to see how we could get involved and what advice they had for us. It is one of the great joys of collaboration: being able to work with and learn from people you admire and respect. While we spoke it again became clear that the aim for Smalltown Beat wasn’t to vie to be the biggest festival in South Africa but to create an experience that was open and reflective of the magnificent creative energy present in our scene. It was the attention to detail, the awareness of the needs of the partygoer, the commitment to the staggering amount of time and organisation required but mostly – this is where a lot of people wobble – it was the focus on music. Not just good, but again, exceptional. Isn’t that the whole point? While the Smalltown team believe in giving a platform to as many local acts as possible they also enjoy having the opportunity to book international acts and expose people to something new and maybe a little different creating a diverse sonic spectrum to engage and excite.

After 3 years wrapped up in cotton wool and stored in a cool dry place below 25C, STB are ready to shake the cobwebs off. After this long wait there’s an even greater focus on making sure the team deliver the best festival possible. With confirmed dates of the 18^th to the 20^th of November 2022, all eyes are on the horizon and the excitement starts to ruminate. Yet this year, STB have decided to do things a little different. With only 1750 tickets available 2022 is set to be on a more intimate and visceral experience. It is also with huge excitement and a fair amount of glee, that we announce our joining of the Smalltown Beat collective family as both a media and creative partner. Joining this collection of brilliant people and organisations is an honour.
