What Are We Wearing And Not Wearing This Year?
If there had to be one all-encompassing statement for the fashion year ahead…it would be that life is way too short to wear boring clothes. After consulting many friends and discussing what they believe to be the ins and outs of 2025, I realised that this really is in the eye of the beholder.
Style and clothing is becoming more personalised and less so steered towards trends. Fast fashion is so last season. In saying that though, there are some obvious fan favourites for 2024 and I predict them to continue and build into this new summer season.

As far as where you are getting your clothes from: Shein is out and local is lekka. Let’s talk linens, which seem to be the popular choice of material amonst men especially. The linen pants, beige button down and Birkenstock Boston’s are the stock standard uniform for the students in Obs.
Let’s not forget to do a shout-out for flat caps from Float and Slab. If you look like you just walked out of a skate park, then Cape Town says you are doing it right. You can get your latest baggy’s from Bullyboy or keep it safe with jorts from your local thrift store.
What’s beautiful about men’s fashion is that women can adopt it too and vice versa. The crossover between masculine and feminine looks isn’t defined by gender. Being boring and shy is out. Being confident and wearing whatever the hell you want to, is in.

The colour purple and other pastels are set to be the colours of the season. Plaid has also made a comeback and could it be that skirts over pants is back in Vogue? Bubble hems and skirts also seem to have popped up recently, micro shorts were back in for a bit there but who can tell if that’s to continue.
The one I am on the fence about, is the ever elusive, ever contradictory skinny jean. Personally, I could indulge in a tighter jean in the winter months but I know someone is reading this and being a hater, so go on hating, someone else will agree with you.
Is it just me, or is my moms closet relevant again? My biggest in for 2025, is to be IN-terested in pursuing your own style, to be IN-vesting in staple pieces and to be IN-credibly confident, because no matter what you wear, the face you have on makes all the difference.
