Over December, local valley Pop sensation Teagan dropped her Amapiano-infused Pop anthem Lock You Down. The track is her fourth release following on from three captivating singles: Bad Boy, Too Good At Being Single, and Let Go. Despite being a step away from her usual Pop Rock sound, Teagan‘s smooth and emotive vocals shine over infectiously energetic and danceable production. The intro begins gently with ambient piano notes, and a steady drum pattern before the introduction of an irresistibly reverberating bass line. The track blends Pop catchiness with Amapiano grooves to create an endlessly fun and summery sound.

The lyrics are confessional and unfold like a series of diary entries, bringing the listener into the magnetic pull of romance that Teagan is experiencing. She sets the track’s intimate tone with the opening lyrics of “Sipping on a white wine making me feel just so fine,” before leading into a journey of evocative and poignant storytelling. The chorus of “Everybody knows I wanna be the one to lock you down,” playfully captures the excitement and vulnerability of falling in love. Teagan’s vocals rise and fall with the melody captured weaving a narrative that captures the magic of connection.

Interestingly, Teagan didn’t start out the songwriting process intending to incorporate a new genre into her music. Although she had always been drawn to Amapiano the idea only came about later during a group writing session. Teagan explains the process as, “During a writing session with Blessing the pianist from Hii-ROLLERS, my producer Ben Reid, and Theo Mulder from Kloudink, we were working on a classic pop track. Things were going well until Blessing suddenly started clapping out an amapiano beat. It instantly struck me as the perfect summer sound, and we knew we had to change direction. The result is a unique blend of pop and amapiano, a ‘pop-piano’ fusion if you will.”

Lock You Down has been one of my personal favourite tracks of the summer with its carefree sound and irresistible melodies. 2025 promises to have even more in store from Teagan as she has already recorded 2 EP’s worth of songs which she is currently in the process of recording. I for one am super excited to hear what her debut EP holds. If Teagan continues with the consistent output she has shown so far in her career while experimenting with new sounds, I’m sure her star will keep rising as an artist.
