jaxobz’s star continues to shine as he brings us a more refined version of his unique soundscape with “Todaytoday.Twothousand”.

Jaxobz‘s set at No Strings Attached was one of the best live performances I’ve seen this year. With his trademark high-octane sound, limitless energy and unique sound, he had the crowd going absolutely crazy. As an event in Paarden Eiland with a largely Punk and skater audience I’m certain many left as new jaxobz fans. Whether NSA was your first exposure to him or you’ve been on the wave from the beginning, I’m sure you will be blown away by his latest offering, the short but sweet two-track EP Todaytoday.Twothousand.

The two tracks, Twothousand and Todaytoday, are a further exploration of different sides of jaxobz’s unique form of Alternative Trap that is unlike virtually anything else coming out of South Africa. As usual, the project is self-produced by jaxobz and there is clear progression as he continues to develop his authentic blend of Alternative Hip-Hop, Grunge and Bedroom Pop.

The opening track Twothousand is a track that combines sugary Hyperpop chaos and brash synth lines with hard-hitting Trap 808s. There is also a fascinating sample flip of LUVORATORRRRRY from Dance Dance Dance Revolution that showcases his impressive production chops.

Jaxobz’s melodic vocals with a range of different inflections blend perfectly with his production to create a unique kind of banger.

TodayToday with Omanic features another eclectic sample flip this time in the form of “If You Were Here” by Jennifer, an obscure Eurodance track released as part of Japanese dance music compilation Dancemania 6. With its heavy synths, distorted bass line and 808s the track feels like something you’d hear on an old-school fighter game. The vocals alternate between a pitched up Hyperpop sound and a more conventional Hip-Hop flow, creating another memorable track to finish the EP off.

This EP represents yet another exciting chapter in jaxobz’s already memorable rise as an artist and producer who forms part of an exciting new generation of local artist. Don’t miss out on a special listening experience and go stream Todaytoday.twothousand on Spotify.
