Making Crypto Cool Again
With a brilliantly fun music video (despite the plugs) and a catchy as-hell song, Cryptocurrency by Kuami Eugene and ROTMI found its way into my heart, just as cryptocurrency found its way into our lives.
The rising Ghanaian Afrobeats artist and producer Kuami Eugene has teamed up with Nigerian-American R&B star Rotimi for a fun and catchy new single titled “Cryptocurrency”. Since its release, the single has already garnered over a million global streams and with the recent release of the music video, the track is set to keep on blazing.
The “Cryptocurrency” music video is directed by award-winning Ghanaian filmmaker Xbills Ebenezer, who has worked with other top African artists such as Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, and Yemi Alade. The futuristic visual affair brings the track further to life, with a mix of culture and technology. As Kuami puts it, “What I love most about this video is the blend of that new generation AI vibe, and classic African royalty and heritage. It’s a touch of culture and class”.
“Cryptocurrency” is the second single from Kuami’s anticipated third studio album titled “Rags2Riches”, which is set to be released in Autumn. The album release will coincide with Kuami’s upcoming tour, scheduled to begin this May.
The track showcases both Kuami Eugene and Rotimi in their element, with lush vocals and melodies, tongue-in-cheek relatable songwriting skills, and impeccable musicianship over an infectious Afrobeat soundscape. Kuami Eugene wrote the song with Rotimi, and he produced it himself, flawlessly.
With over 200 million global streams, Kuami Eugene is one of the biggest new stars in Africa. He has already achieved multiple awards, including “Most Promising Artist In Africa” at the All Africa Music Awards earlier in his career and, more recently, “Artiste of the Year” at the Ghana Music Awards. The rising pop star, musician, and producer has his sights set on flying the Ghanaian flag on the world stage and with the release of his highly anticipated album “Rags2Riches”, we see it happening.
