Fast forward what felt like an eternity and in the mound of ashes of shattered dreams and long-missed shows, there rumbles the spark of a Phoenix.
Revival.
On the 23rd of February 2020, live music in South Africa was pronounced dead. The international pandemic strangled live music all around the world but in a small city, and a competitive industry, music in Cape Town was effectively destroyed. Musicians couldn’t make money, venues couldn’t pay rent and the final heartbeats of once a glorious community passed in silence and isolation.
Fast forward what felt like an eternity and in the mound of ashes of shattered dreams and long-missed shows, there rumbles the spark of a Phoenix. To rise gloriously. A revival.
We at the CCC have been working to try start instigating that revival and create a platform to grow our music and creative industry and that’s why we immediately fell in love with folk at The Revival Co. Recently formed and already coming out the gates blazing, the powerhouse combination of founders Richard Liefeldt and Sihle Mkhize – two amazing musicians in their own right, brought us their second event this Saturday passed at District.
With an outstanding collaborative team of Roastin’ Records, Fokof Lager, Honest Burger, Revival Co. pulled out all the stops on Saturday.
From up-and-comers Los Suenos, The Karriers, to local legends and one of our favourites, Hartleyvale, Loose Ends and iconic DJ Invizable, the event was a brilliant success with the intention done successfully of reviving that essential rock scene that Cape Town has missed so much.
Fun, engaging and with a whole host of attitude, ‘Buy the Ticket, Take the Ride’ was a return to a golden period in CT and standing in the backline watching Loose Ends absolutely explode the crowd with grungy rock mosh pits – it makes you realise that there are enough dangers and risks in everyday life, music and music festivals shouldn’t be another one.
Keep your eyes wide open for more events by Revival Co, hopefully we can cook something up together in the upcoming future.
