JBU are having a day out!

Looking back at where Just Between Us has come from, its growth in the industry, as well as its ability to supplement the scene with its various takeovers across Cape Town, one can understand the impact which this collective has had and why it has come so far! What Just Between Us has become and where it is going are both part of the journey, as each event is as unique and special as the next.

Now, as JBU closes in on its third year as one of Cape Town’s leading electronic events, it’s time to take things outside! A 12-hour day festival which embodies the deep, stripped-back, and sexy energy that JBU instills on everyone that joins it. Two international artists in the form of Stojche (MKD) and CRYME (DE), both making their South African debuts, will be joined by some of our favourite JBU residents and local Cape Town talents.

On the 16th of November, the JBU crew is taking a little trip out North toward Somerset West, just below the Hottentots Holland Mountain range, deep within the trees of Harrison Flowers. As this project set off, there was an understanding that in order to create something special, there had to be a sense of uniqueness. There had to be a search to find something untouched, remarkable, and intimate, all whilst being just a stone’s throw outside of the bustling city of Cape Town. And so, just 40 minutes outside of the CBD, Harrison Flowers ticks all of those boxes.

JBU has always proved itself in its ability to bring Cape Town some of the scene’s best underground and up-and-coming international artists, from Zisko (Arg), who ripped it up at their 2nd anniversary last year, to KVLR, the young German-based producer who brought his experience in the HOR bathrooms to the Factories dance floor. Debuting their sound to those in SA, both in Cape Town and up in Johannesburg. To see these collectives bringing in such talent in these last few years is a huge positive for the SA scene. Each of these artists are improving our shows, inspiring the crowd and local artists, and really buying into the culture, and so offer to the growth of our scene immensely. We offer a different energy and within the beauty that our country holds.

As we near the next JBU event, we realise the value in which these artists promote the scene here in SA.

Stojche (ES)

Native of Skopje, Macedonia, Stojche has established himself as a notable underground techno rebel, trapped in the urban chaos of the 21st century.

His versatility exudes a kind of tact that resonates with nothing but the truth. Whether you find him in the basement of Tresor, Fuse, Berghain or Fabrik, his DJ sets provide further evidence of many years spent behind the turntables, resulting in dynamic and pounding journeys with a dose of emotional content. His constant pursuit for inspiration sits balanced with the pulse of the city life as he refines his trademark Detroit – schooled dubbed-out productions.

Being exposed early to the expansion of the Motor City sounds in the Macedonian capital triggered him to explore his own path in this futuristic music phenomenon called Techno. As an artist who always remained true to his vinyl collection, he played a vital role in the vibrant underground scene across the region.

CRYME (DE)

DJ, producer, and founder of Queer & FLINTA* leaning label SEVEN, CRYME’s fast-paced sets build a happy, love-filled dance floor.

From origins deep in Berlin’s underground scene, CRYME’s style combines the energy of techno with the love and positive vibes of House music. In 2024, he launched his label, SEVEN, releasing uplifting, happy, progressive, and minimal house from a roster leaning toward queer and FLINTA* artists with support from producers including Deetron, Cinthie, and Sol Ortega. SEVEN promotes diversity and positivity, merging high-energy beats with inclusivity to transform dance floors into spaces of shared joy and unity.

Described by peers as “a master of rhythm who plays CDJ’s like a musical instrument,” as he transforms each performance into a vibrant, community-driven experience. One can expect high energy and big smiles as soon as he plugs in his USB.

Joined by those who have been a part of the JBU family for a long time, these 12 hours are going to be a journey filled with groovy house and some sexy techno beats and basslines to carry you from midday into the night!
