Draw us in, push us away.
Let us see it all, whether it be colour or grey.
“How absurd the universe is – the way it has a mind of its own and is so mysterious to us yet we are a part of it.”

It is a rare sensation when an artist leaves you speechless, but not because you are left ‘breathless’ or have nothing to say but because your mind is occupied, racing at the speed of lightyears. Rosa Ballantine (@rosa_ballantine) has an eye for seeing the moments in everyday life through a lens of curiosity and wonder which is reflected in her art in such a way where you as the observer begin to re-imagine the world around you.
“I like to bring in a sense of wonder, play, strangeness and abstraction when illustrating. I am inspired by the natural world and the way existence operates in balance. I love using the natural elements in my art; intimate connection with the earth brings me peace.”
Through her illustrations, photography and filmmaking, there is a beautiful balance and use of ‘palimpsest’, meaning to layer, employing a mixture of mediums to express the fusion of reality and imagination.
“I want to bring serenity as well as fascination and wonder to the viewer as I aim to connect with and understand humanity and the universe through creating art that tries to decipher it all.”
Rosa Ballantine is inspired by the natural world and the way existence operates in balance. She loves using the natural elements in my art; an intimate connection with the earth brings me peace, so she expresses and channels that through drawing. She is also inspired by how absurd the universe is – the way it has a mind of its own and is so mysterious to us yet we are a part of it. She likes to bring in a sense of wonder, play, strangeness and abstraction when illustrating, too.
Rosa has always dreamed of her art one day taking her around the world. To own her own walk-in shop/gallery with prints and frames and clothes and books, and then to hopefully exhibit her work in different cities too.
“I feel my purpose as an artist is to create a visual language that can be understood and resonated with. I want to make people feel like they are understood and not alone, and I want to bring serenity as well as fascination and wonder to the viewer. There is no better feeling than hearing someone express to me how a particular artwork makes them feel, as I aim to connect with and understand humanity and the universe through creating art that tries to decipher it all.”
